 I have a lot of respect for older people and I always enjoy and benefit from their wisdom. And it was not a fear of aging that kept me from not having senior friends through the years. The truth is, I always felt more comfortable in the company of young people and I have a lot of fun with them. But the times are changing... Yesterday I opened my mail to find I was the recipient of a Super Gold card. I had mixed feelings and my first reaction was being speechless and felt some excitement within me. But the other half of me was not sure if I was ready to accept that in a few weeks time, I will qualify as a senior citizen. Someone said that age is no respecter of person and I have personally heard from other people and through my readings that this is a very scary place to be! But God will help us and He didn't bring us this far to leave us stranded. God is already in the future and His best is yet to come!

Strength. I really like where I am right now because I now have peace and I accept where I am in life. That's strength. Looking back to look ahead, the truth is that I cannot change anything that has happened in the past nor can I wish away what I don't want to happen in the future. The Apostle Paul says,  "And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace until his task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns" (Philippians 1:6). 

 Courage. God give us courage, give someone who is reading this the courage to believe that You will help create a new life map to be fitted to the rest of the days we have left to live. God's Word says that His plans for us are for good and not for evil to give us a future with a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Now that's another one of God's promises to live by!

 Faith. We all need a God kind of faith. What effect are your words having on your life? This morning during our prayer time with the team I felt the Lord encouraged my faith by adding a new phrase to my vocabulary, "believe it to see it". One of our ladies shared this from a conversation she had with her 17 year old son. Romans 10:8, "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart."  Good thoughts will create good things and whatever we speak has the power to happen. The Holy Spirit (always near and present) is our encourager and, Oh, for some more faith building words to come forth of the mouth!

Times are changing and it's time to acquire new knowledge, learn a new skill, be free to let go of old beliefs and ideas that can clutter the mind and hinder our journey from moving forward!

    Hi Lome,

    Love this post... . so glad you have joined Gary and I as a senior citizen. We have been in this category for awhile now, and it isn't scary at all. .. because God is walking with us, daily. ..he takes away the fear of growing older and of death, because death is just a transition to our eternal life with our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is on our side

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!   "If God is for us, who can be against us? " Romans 8:31 (image source: stephensizer.blogspot.com) What a great promise to believe God for in 2012! The last year had its many successes and failures. But we are now on the threshold of a new year with new challenges, new opportunities and privileges. We must "... press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). And we need courage to do that. Society uses courage to honor war-heroes, the bravery of those who save people from dangerous situation and other heroic acts that require extraordinary strength. But we also need courage in our day to day lives. We need courage and wisdom to live ordered lives; so we can give quality time to maintain good health, to praying and reading our Bibles. A new year - a "fresh start"

The New Year is here! What a year it's been. And I'm really glad to be starting a New Year. Looking back, 2010 was a busy year. I started a new job at the beginning of the year. Launched my blog (Treasures In Darkness) and started writing. I volunteer weekly as co-host for a radio prayer ministry to the Samoan community and the nations. The ministry celebrated it's first birthday last year. The month of April saw the start of an outreach ministry "Treasures of Hope" to local women in the community. Then in November/December, I attended the 50th Jubilee of Youth With A Mission in Kona, Hawaii. The year closed with the passing away of my father on Christmas day. That year is behind me now. It's time to look ahead! One of the values I had learned from my late father's life was that of ' perseverance. ' He believed in hard work ("if you don't work you don't eat... you become poor").
